With its content management system for TV metadata now fully tested and deployed, onTV will be in a position to answer any needs of clients for specific metadata feeds, in terms of content and formats.
It is onTV's objective to be the main source for metadata on professionally produced quality content online, as it becomes available.
Coverage of other geographical markets and formats is planned for the months ahead.
onTV:meta - metadata management system
The onTV:meta TV Metadata Publishing Framework is a modular, customisable, standards-based system for the acquisition, creation, enhancement, management and publication of television and radio programme information (and information about all other forms of digital content). Capture the data once, and publish it in as many formats and across as many platforms as you want.
Using the system, programme/content information ('metadata') can be authored and/or acquired from multiple sources in multiple formats, editorially processed and then delivered through multiple paths, such as electronic programme guides (EPGs), print media, web-sites and SMS services.
The onTV TV Metadata Publishing Framework is based on the TV-Anytime standard which provides an unprecedently powerful set of tools for describing television programmes and is rapidly emerging as the dominant interoperable standard for business-to-business exchage of metadata and for viewer-oriented metadata.
onTV has added proprietary extensions to facilitate management of the editorial and publishing process. Our active involvement in the TV-Anytime Forum ensures that the Framework is always compliant with the latest version of the standard and that it makes maximum use of its rich feature set.
By leveraging the most appropriate XML technologies (including native XML storage using X-Hive, XML Schema for validation, X-Query for querying and XSL-T for transformations into publication formats), the system achieves high performance coupled with reliability and cost effectiveness. The XML-centric approach of the system brings great flexibility which, in turn allows for ease of customisation and assures a high degree of future-proofing.
The browser-based interface ensures user-friendliness - reducing the learning curve, increasing productivity and widening the pool of potential users.
